Google Play

Google Play the all in one, stop and shop for content.

Google have introduced their new service which will be your centralised hub for music, books, movies, apps and games. This new repository replaces the Android app store, Google music, Google books and now adds movies.

The Googles big selling point is the instant syncing of all your content within the cloud. Start a movie online and then finish it on your Android device while waiting at the bus stop, buy a book on your phone and continue reading it on your desktop. Essentially what Google has done is what Apple has been doing since October 2011 with the introduction of iOS 5 and iCloud. At least now Android users have the love.

You have to wonder why is it called Google Play? Very odd branding from the big G, it sounds like a streaming service akin Netflix or Lovefilm. Google Play is also an online store for books, apps and games. You don't play a book or app... I think there is potential for confusion with the end user.

Only time will tell if Google Play will be a success, it does finally detangle the Google content spider web.
